I recent read of a guy in the Michgan thumb area who had taken on a program of herd improvement on private property. It involved earning a buck - you have to shoot a doe first. His contention was that the ratio of bucks to does out to be 1:3, and it is averaging 1:12 or more in Michigan. I think overall numbers are too high, but I seldom see a buck. I have 5 or 6 that come into my yard every night, but I have seen only a couple of bucks in 20+ years here.
