We sometimes got water in the transmissions and/or final drives in mining equipment and when that happened we ran the machine non stop to heat it up enough to make the water evaporate off and dry out the bearings and gears. Had to keep checking oil at about 4-6 hour intervals till dried out. The watery foam starts rusting of bearing races which in turn causes pitting and things just get worse from there on.
