That seems to be the problem most truck drivers have with the DOT.
I know you guys have a job to do just like I have one to do. I know we need the DOT to keep things safe out there on the road for all of us.
BUT I see vehicles every day that are over weight; unsafe; or being driven in a unsafe manner; and because they do not fall under the CMV rules nothing is done. Most troopers that are not trained in DOT rules do not know the law well enough to enforce it and the ones that are trained are after CMV's only.
Maybe one day after enough people are killed our goverment may take a stand and try to educate our public about trucks the way the railroad is doing about crossings. I bet we could ask 100 people from the general public about trucks; and 75% of them have no idea about how to act around trucks on the highway. I think I could back that up by quoting a recent survey/study that was done that shows most truck accidents are caused by the cars around him.
To me the guy hauling a yard of dirt on a single axle lawn mower trailer behind a S-10 pickup is more unsafe than a 80,000 lb load of dirt on a proper truck.
