I had an old Allis CA that had a magnetic plug in the oil pan.....it had metal shavings every oil change. I ran it for years and I suppose it is still out there somewhere running! That little tip has prompted me to affix a strong magnet to the bottoms of all my oil/transmission pans ever since. Any of that stuff gets trapped there against the bottom of the pan and out of circulation. If you can find your self a large flat magnet, attach it to the bottom of the pan or housing and I think you'll be all right.
