It started happening much more frequently (at least to me) when they announced they were testing some new features on the site a week or two back. To get around this, instead of using the left mouse button to click a link, I click the link once with the right mouse button, then when the choices pop-up select "open link in new window", then when I am done looking at whatever it was I can close that new window and the original search window is still open. Much more convenient that having to refresh and wait for it to re-search each time, at least for me it is.
