Your Dad has a pretty rare tractor as only 357 were built and they were only made in 1953. They are really known as thw UTIL-M, industrail model upgraded for military use. As to use, I heard they were used to tow airplanes, fuel and water wagons, pull bomb carts, motor pool towing, and anything else that came along. What the Corp of Engineers I don't know but probably similar uses. Many of this type machine ended up at airports and city/town garages after the military was finished with them.
