Hi Rex; Yes the 414 was an uprated 275 fitted with larger 40HP engine (275 was rated at 37HP). New styled tinwork in IH red with cream wheels & grills. The 414 featured "Vari-Touch" hydraulics which gave depth and position control via 2 levers (this system was available as option on later 275's). The 414 was a very good tractor but never sold in the numbers that the 250 & 275 achieved. Rather outshadowed by the 3 cyl MF35 & Fordson Super Dexta which were the main selling tractors in that power bracket at that period. Never heard of IH having cyl head problems, their downfall was the indirect injection engine which was hard to start in colder weather unless the battery & glowplugs were in tip-top condition. Personally I think the 275 & 414 were better tractors than the MF & Fordson. They featured live PTO, idependent hydraulics - engine driven pump, diff lock, disc brakes, optional 540 & 720 PTO revs, and a higher weight to power ratio 100 Pounds to 1HP which gave better traction. Cheers David

Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
