I am not sure what your mechanic is refering to, as the 24V 4020 starter is neither pos or negative ground. Both pos and neg starter terminals are isolated from frame ground. You need a 12V starter,as that 24V starter will have very little power when operating on 12V. You need as much battery as you can fit into the battery boxes, 1800-2000 CCA is not out of line.
