Just happen to have a 91 4 runner in shop now for ,,,yep ,,head gaskets !
Not a fun job , est $1800, head gasket set alone is $370 my cost . Job will require surfacing both heads , timing belt , water pump , tensioner , any fluids , belts etc. heads not cracked , but may need valves done while off.
Typically if head is to be replaced most are bare castings and require transfer of parts from old head, complete reman head may be avail also .
Old toyota is barely worth it , but customer is advised of everything up front , written estimate and signed . customer is happy, I'm happy ,,,well i will be after putting this pain back together ,lol
