Need some good Guesses. O/T by the way

Went to town to get stuff to fix the roof today and at my last stop I pushed the clutch pedal down on my Geo tracker and start it. It started and died because the clutch cable acted like it had broke. Well I put on a new cable and still the same problem. So any guesses as to what would just go out but still have the clutch engaged?? I did drive it home that way just started it in gear ans shafted it like I would a big rig.
I'm thinking throw out bearing and or preassure plate whats your guess.
