Yep theres an adaptor for filling tires, 2 bit thing costs about $5 for it. As far as rust and a leak at the stem yes it will get inside and cause bigger problems. Now as far as doing the job your self yes it can be done but you need the correct tools to be able to do it your self. Cost of the tools will be around $100 for a tire hammer and the spoons to brake it down. Its also not an easy job. BTDT many times. As far as getting the fluid in and out drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a page from and owners manual that explains how to do it and what you need will not cost very much to do the job. One way it show you can do it in your sleep. Just set it up and go to bed and it will be done when you wake up the next day.
