I've got a Caclium filled tire, new tire, new rim been on there since '02, been real careful with these so as not to spring an internal leak from a puncture, but as my luck sometimes is, the darned valve seemed to have leaked maybe since '02 I replaced the core and it still leaks, not sure what the deal is, but obviously it will need a tube, and I'd like to make sure the rim is not taking on any CA CL, clean and re-paint if needed.

So what I was wondering, if the valve was leaking on the outside, being that the air pressure should seal up around the stem hole, any chance of liquid back tracking inside and causing probelems? I see some rust on the outside, tire guy told me it would stop, screwed up here and should ahve dealt with it then.

Also wondering what the best way to do this on my own, I've always bit the bullet and used the tire guy, but I'd like to be able to deal with the rim while the tire is deflated, obviously I need a look in there to see what's up. I've got a different tire guy now, real nice guy, but like the rest of us, saving a buck when you can is always nice.

Isn't there an adapter for filling tires, assume it works in reverse ? I read the post about draining them down, but have to save the fluid and re-use. It's on a job in a heated building, so now is the time to get r done.

Much thanks !

PS- they finally turned on the cold air over here, glad it's in a heated building !

Thanks again, will see what the tire guy says, then make a decision.

I changed that outer piece when the valve was up, but still a slight leak not sure where. Alaways something, new tire, rim and put on by a tire guy, and it leaked. Just hope the rim is not been ruined. I salvaged the other one, which had a leak, sand blasted it, coated with zinc rich galv spray, let er dry nicely, came out nice, new tire guy put that one on no problem, was a power adjust rim so worth doing.

I've got the Gemplers catalog, it's amongst many of whats on the bookshelf, good outfit for tire supplies.

your tire should have a 2 piece valve stem. an outer larger unit, and a smaller one with a nut to hold it in place that the core actually mounts in. You can change the outer piece without having to replace the tube.

I just bought the tool from Gemplers, 1 800 382 8473, Probably on Olds advice. Next you need a fluid pump that goes on the end of a drill, and some windshield washing solution to refill the tire. Just did this this weekend worked fine, I let someone else take the tire off the rim, but when you get the fluid out you should be able to handle the tire. Depending on size?

Yep theres an adaptor for filling tires, 2 bit thing costs about $5 for it. As far as rust and a leak at the stem yes it will get inside and cause bigger problems. Now as far as doing the job your self yes it can be done but you need the correct tools to be able to do it your self. Cost of the tools will be around $100 for a tire hammer and the spoons to brake it down. Its also not an easy job. BTDT many times. As far as getting the fluid in and out drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a page from and owners manual that explains how to do it and what you need will not cost very much to do the job. One way it show you can do it in your sleep. Just set it up and go to bed and it will be done when you wake up the next day.
