I'd look into the cost of the replacement engine. I find it hard to believe that you could buy a $4K 4020 and convert it to a diesel for less than the $8K diesel was to start with. Salvage yards are probably asking 3 grand or better for just the engine. It's probably an easy job to do, but I'm a bit skeptical on the money side of it.
