puzzled about my to 30 charging system

Hey guys. My ferguson to 30 does not hold a charge. I put a battery load tester on my generator and it reads 7 volts. The battery reads 12 volts. The coil says on the side 6 volts. Cant find any voltage number on the square regulator. Can the supposed 6 volt generator charge the 12 volt battery? If it can oplease help me. Should I put on a 12 volt alternator? Im pretty non confident in the electrical dept
