Just a stab in the dark. Have someone stand beside the carbureter and, after you start it, have that someone tap the carbureter bowl with a stick or small tool. If that tapping will keep it running, then you have a sticky needle valve. The carb floats push the vertically mounted needle valve up into the closed position when bowl fills up. That stops flow from tank. As tractor burns fuel, float descends but sometimes needle valve remains closed and when fuel in bowl is gone, engine quits. Seems to be a common problem. Probably because of underuse and volatile gas which evaporates faster, leaving gummy residue.
