I do remember from my youth, my dad got mom a lawnmower for their anniversary (July 4th- he was in the Army during WWII, and it was the only day he could get off, so the story goes). It was pretty heavy going around the homestead for a few days, I recall. As for me, I got lucky- wife hates to shop, doesn't care much for presents, so we just take each other out to dinner for special occasions, and are both happy. 35 and counting. Retirement, T minus 5 and counting.
