Locking differential sticky?

Hi All, I have a MF 175, not multi-power, 8x2 trans. Nice tractor. When I'm pulling a chisel plow sometimes I need to hit the differential lock pedal(at least that's what I think it is, makes both the wheels turn at the same rate) to have greater traction. Then I need it to disengage for a tight turn, but it seems to stay locked for some undefined amount of time. Is there something I can do to get it to release quickly? I've tried backing up and other things, but I can't figure out what get's it to disengage. Thanks much,
