Since I started messin' with old tractors about a year ago, I have destroyed 4 steering wheels and 2 gear pullers. I end up mashing the hollow threaded shaft and crushing the plastic steering wheel as well. The best I've been able to do is soak it in WD-40 for 2 weeks, then cut the plastic back to expose the steel hub and repair the threads after everything is finally apart. Is there a trick to this that I don't know? It's taking all the fun out of restoring them! Any advice is welcome! Thanks! Mike G.
