Yeah, it's probably a band aid stop gap, but thought I'd give it a try.

Compression was 127 across the board when I bought it (was the last time I checked it). I can idle the thing down to around 450 rpm, so don't think it has an air leak issue.

Buying used is a throw of the dice anyway. Probably be my luck that it has wobbly valve guides or something.
