Transfer Pump on Diesel

Way OT but really could use soom help. My son has a 1 ton 1999 Dodge w/dump. He"s told that the fuel trasfer pump is bad and will need to be replaced. Not too sure where this pump even is. Is this just a fuel pump located in the tank? If it is, wouldn"t I be able to raise the dump and replace fron the top side of the tank? Any help would be appreciated. The dealer quoted $960 to replace it. Ouch. Need the truck for plowing tonight. Craig
