Even if you find something other than fuel pump is the problem change the fuel filter. I had a friend who went thru 3 fuel pumps between 50,000 and 80,000 miles on his chevy pickup. A partially plugged filter causes the pump to run at a higher pressure causing early failure. My machanic friends tell me the first filter change should be at 50,000 miles. Sure cheaper than a $400 fuel pump.
