Thanks Bob, for the suggestions. I ran a seperate ground back to the battery ground for the sending unit. (The new sender I purchased is not in the tank yet) And checked the ground for the guage. It is OK. The guage ground wire goes to the alternator and is grounded to the alternator housing. (I think because it is closer to the fuel tank??) The guage connections are clearly marked and there is 12.3 volts at the guage. When I ground the sender wire the guage reads EMPTY. and with 30 ohms connected to the sender and ground It reads 1/4. when the sender wire is not connected the guage is pegged (FULL). I tried all three guages I have and they all act the same. 1/4 full is max that guage will read with 30 ohms connected. I tried more resistance in the line and I can make the guage read higher which tells me the guages are OK and the sending unit may be the wrong one? Problem is the sender is new and JD dealer insists it is correct one. The guages are all used, and one was supposed to come off of a 2030 according to ASAP in Downing , Wis. I am not familiar with jdparts.com so here goes. My tractor serial number is 150743L,TYPE 2030, CODE 2030A and was mfg. in Germany. Engine serial number is 189559CD, TYPE 4219GL and was mfg. in France. New sender part number is AT20912, and guage part number is AL24187. The sender is ZERO ohms when float is down (tank empty)and 30 ohms when raised(tank full). I realize this is opposite from most fuel guages, but that is how this unit works. Thanks again.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
