My experience has been that at a depth of approx. 1 foot, a chisel plow requires 10 - 12 hp per tooth. In heavy ground that has not been worked for years you are looking at more like 15+ hp/tooth. The problem that you may run into is traction. I used to run a JD 4840 and at 220+ hp it would spin out with a 10 tooth chisel. We had to run the duals to have enough traction. High horsepower and 2 wheel drive tractors don't mix well!
