Mornin' Guy!, Like the other fellas just said and exactly opposite of what a guy would normally think, the traction is not even a consideration nor an issue; the tractor is gonna pull the load, no doubt about that. However, the "lighter, open center and floating type" duals get the weight of the tractor "off" the ground and spread that weight over a larger area reducing compaction of the soil. It is kinda hard to explain, but in this type soil, if you don't run the duals on the tillage ahead of the planter, you'll see those silly tire tracks for two months in the height of the new crop. The key is to loosen the soil up, then "pack" it back just enough for a good seedbed makin' it ready for planting but still leaving it with the effect as though you haven't even been there.
