perkins engine

Have a mf294 with 5700 hrs on it. Runs good for that number of hrs. and is light duty now but been thinking about changing the main and rod bearings. Brother is a firm beliver in changing them in his heavy use tractors every few thousand hours. This project is more than removing the pan, loader and 4x4 componets have to be removed. If I go that far to check them, I would replace them. I usually don't work on anything unless it is broke but bearings would be a cheap peveantive action. What's your thoughts?
