Hopefully, someone may recognize this problem and provide some good advice. I have a '88 Ford F150 with the Mazda 5-Speed which is difficult at times to shift into first gear. At other times, it works perfectly. When I try to shift, it does not grind, it just will not go into the engaged position. If I turn off the engine, it will shift perfectly. When it won't shift, I push forward on the shifter and I can hear the drive shaft "clunk" as though it is trying to turn. It seems as though the transmission is not stopping for the shift, even though the clutch is depressed. It does seem to be more of a problem in hot weather. Please help! At long stop lights, I have to leave it in gear so I can go. My foot is getting tired! If I shift to first gear just before I stop, about 2 MPH, it works perfectly. Thanks to all for your response.
