Now Jim...... It's my turn to be a smart as*. The 4000 was the best tractor Ford ever built.... but the heart came from Basildon. That 3 banger was a blue oval, 201 cid all the way. PERKINS!!!!!argggg. On a more serious note, with respect to the original post, I would be careful of hp. Especially if you intend to get a disc mower or a discbine. I would suggest no less than 60 PTO hp for either. Small mounted disc mowers will work on mabey a 40+ hp 3 cylinder like a 3000 Ford or better, but I don't think I would want to try that combo with an 860 or 861. The tractor is too light, and I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in that old 4 cylinder to take much crap from a disc mower. The 3 was a far better lugger. If a disc mower in not on the list, then there have been many fine suggestions made. The later (post '68) Ford 4000 would be the top of my list. Take care, and have fun! Rod
