I like to use granular 10-10-10 plant food on my sweet corn. covers all my bases and doesn't burn the plants. I also use it on my yard in the spring and trees all year. Hoe or till the soil just under the surface. Broadcast 2 to 3 pounds of 10-10-10 per 100 square feet then water. It sound like it your first year in that field so Come harvest time check the ears of corn to see how many of the ears are missing kernels. Pollination is what gives you nice juciy kernels of corn. If I have time when the ear is just forming on the stock 1/2 inch to and inch ear. I will go out and shake the tassel around to help with polination.
