I have a Bobcat 500, same basic machine but with a 60 inch bucket. It sounds like you got trouble in the speeed control and or belt. That belt should get tight when you move the speed control lever, and the sheaves should change size. If you have a manual, study it for answers.
Don't expect that old Bobcat to steer and turn like the newer hydrastadts do. No way. Those older ones drive best on snow and ice, where the tires can easily break traction, and are most miserable to turn on pavement. But it should go and not jump and jerk around. Those old ones will still do a lot of work.
