slightly off topic the price of diesel

What is up with the price of diesel fuel, it used to be half the price of regular gas, I fueled up my truck the other day and diesel was $2.33 a gal and regular gas was $2.09. How's the price of diesel where you live? there has to be something that can be done about this. I thought that diesel was a byproduct of gasoline. I suppose that when hydrogen becomes popular you won't be able to afford a bottle of water.
