Just to see what they were saying about it, I went to the PETA website (peta.org). Sure enough, they were crowing- and saying that leather drives the cattle industry, because 2/3 of the value of the animal is the hide. I'd never heard such hogwash in my life- so I called a local slaughterhouse- hides are still about 10 bucks (he said they got as high as $60 once, but that was 9 years ago)- and a hanging beef is worth about $1,000 (800 lbs. at $1.25). So I sent PETA an email, and suggested that they might not be such a joke among mainstream folks if they would just quit fabricating all their "information".
