Coil Problems

Can anyone help??? I have an IH Cub 1250, 12V, magneto, points. Over the past few years I have replaced the coil several times but more recently it"s only lasting a couple months. When I crank it, with the plug out and grounded, it sparks initially, then dies out and it may or may not spark on the last revolution. When I replace the coil with a new one it fires right up. I have noticed that on high rpm"s it"s charging full all the time but never indicates the battery is fully charged and as I throtle the engine down, the charge rate drops as well. I have replaced the coil three times over the past year. I use it often for mowing, leaf vac, and plowing. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
