What I heard of was "water glass" and I was told it was sold in pharmacies. I guess it was put in a pail of water and fresh eggs were submerged in the water and they would keep along time. Something from the ice box days I guess. And I was also told it was good for cracked blocks and heads. I never saw it or tried it and don't know if you can buy it.
