First, their are no safety switches on a 1955 AC WD-45. I guess the first thing I would do is, take my meter, touch the red lead to the hot wire at the starter, touch the black lead to the starter housing. You should see 12 volts on the meter at this point. Now, with your third hand, push the starter button. With the button pushed, you should still see 12 volts on your meter. If the meter drops to something less than 12 volts, release the starter button, take your black lead, and touch it to the bellhousing, you will see 12 volts, again, with your third hand, push the starter button, with the button pushed, your meter should still show 12 volts. If it drops to somthing less than 12 volts. There are two wires hooked to the post on the starter, one is the battery cable, the smaller one goes up to the ammeter. Disconnect the smaller one from the post on the starter. Now try your starter again, the tractor won't be able to start at this point, but the starter should work. I'm not trying to write a book here, so try that, let us know what happen's. We can go from there.
