I have a similier problem with my 350U. The starter solenoid doesn't last long, and when it starts acting up, it will engage the starter, but not spin the engine. To test the theory, jumper across the terminals (bypass the solenoid) with a chunk of battery cable. Make sure there's no spilled gas, cuz it will spark good. If it spins then, replace the solenoid. Also, remove the starter and sand the contact area between the starter and bell housing. A little Never Seize helps the current flow in that spot.
