4020 lift arm

I just bought a "71 JD 4020 in very good shape with one exception. The little knob that you pull up on the lift arm to allow for the hitch to slide out is frozen solid. Using PB Blaster to loosen the thing and then using short pry bar to try to get it up, of course the little knob broke off. I took of the little cover plate with the spring inside and continued drenching with PB Blaster. Just out of curiosity I called the local JD dealer to see about a replacement arm and it is listed as an obsolete item. I can get along without this feature but sure don't want to if I don't have to. Can anybody give me an idea how to unstick the extension release or if I need to get a replacement if I decide to?
