Plowing Rye and Peas:

Having a problem plowing rye and peas for a cover crop. We're using a four bottom plow and since the peas are so over-grown, it's a tangled mess and plugs every 50 ft. or less. Should have been plowed down earlier but the field was too wet to plow sooner. The 5 ft. rye doesn't seem to be a problem but the pea vines tend to ball up and plug the plow between the coulters and the plow. Someone suggested chopping before plowing but I'm afraid this would only be worse to try to plow under. I'm sure some of you out there have had simular problems and may be able to offer some advice. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
