Old plows just didn't have enough clearance.
From one bottom to the next, & from the top of
the ground to the top of the frog. In addition, if less than an 18" coulter, it's worn
out. Lots of old plows have them worn down to
12-14" - worthless. Might as well throw them
off, no point something that small is along for
the ride. Sometimes a wire about 10' long tied to each
coulter shank way down low, & flopped over
into the furrow behind it helps. It knocks over
the tall stuff, folds it down & makes it pull
under the ground. Burries all the green stuff
too, which is nice. --->Paul
