not much strength in a 14' 2X4. you can build a good rafter with a 2X6 but better yet with a 2X8 if you got any kind of snow load. dont go cheap, its yours for a long time... also- trusses aint much if you are doin the work alone. i built both ways many times. dont give a squat for trusses most of the time, except for long spans and using a crane... mostly though have fun with your project and take pride in your work. slapdash is a poor reflection on you when it falls in!!! hahahaha--- mud
