Up front an 8 volt battery may seem like a good idea, but it makes life too complicated. If you want orginality, spend your money to maintain the original system and using the right cables it will work just fine. If you want trouble free simplicity and more starting power, convert to a 12 volt system with a one wire altenater. An opinion, K-Mo
