8 Volt Charger

My 1940 Farmall M was converted to an 8 volt system many years ago. I am able to purchase an 8 volt battery locally, but no one seems to sell an 8 volt charger. Is there a way to safely charge the battery with a 6/12 volt charger? Is there a way to "step down" the voltage and use the 12 volt charger? Any help will be appreciated.
Larry

Up front an 8 volt battery may seem like a good idea, but it makes life too complicated. If you want orginality, spend your money to maintain the original system and using the right cables it will work just fine. If you want trouble free simplicity and more starting power, convert to a 12 volt system with a one wire altenater.
An opinion,

Just crank the regulator up on the M's generator.

use a 12 volt charger hook a headlight or someother load in series to bring the voltage down to 9.2. All lead acid batterys are 2.1 volts per cell an 8 volt battery has 4 cells. A floating charge of 2.3 volts per cell will be sufficient to charge the battery.

Just use your 6 volt battery charger it will charge just like a 6 volt battery. I do this quit often and have for years.

Hook a headlight or brakelight bulb in series with one of the charger leads. Monitor the battery voltage. Fully charged should be about 9.5 Volts, or so.
