to weld a crack in a cast block. you drill a hole in the ends of the crack to keep the crack from spreading. grind a shallow V the lenght of the crack. warm the whole block first, then heat the weld area to a dull red. using a stick welder, weld with a nickle rod, peen the weld to relieve stress. allow the block to cool slowly, two to three hours.
