My ford 2000,4000 series don't start in gear. Neither do my JD's or Yanmars. You have to have the clucth in or the transmission in neutral at the minimum. The 2000 is almost 40 years old. Things sold to homeowners usually have even more safety stuff. I still don't see why I'd want a tractor to start in gear.
