mobob, I drive a 2002 Dodge 1-ton diesel with 5 speed that is my company truck I wouldn't trade it for any other truck we have 4 of them right now. Had one with automatic it only lasted 30,000 miles. Traded for a chevy duramax w/auto now the tranny is out of it at 33,000. My dodge has 54,000 not been touched,the oldest one has 98,000 it is a 2001 never been touched. These are all diesels so can't speak for the gas motors. The diesel does cost more up front, but the resale/tradein value is comparable in the end and the fuel economy is alot better at least that is our experience. Brian
