Here's a point of view from the other side. We live on a country acreage with some horses and chickens. We came home one afternoon to find a farmer from 20 miles away who had helped himself to our tractor / loader to load and haul off 43 of our 1600# bales. When confronted, he said he guessed he had the wrong address, and offered us $12 a bale + $20 for use of the tractor. This summer, I happened to be home to observe a local farmer on his ATV driving around our house trying to catch his dog which by that time had killed 5 of our laying hens. We sent a bill to him for $10 a hen...never heard a word! Property rights should extend both ways.
