I have always kept a 'tractor gun'. For years I kept a simple .22 mag revolver (except during deer season; then I would usually carry a cheap 30/30 bungee corded to the fender). A few years ago I got a real deal on a Colt H-BAR .223. I usually just drop it behind the seat in the cab. If I'm on an open tractor I'll stll use the bungee cords. A tractor gun is going to live a hard life so I like somethign with composite stocks and either stainless or like the Colt, a rust resistant steel. You do want to check your local laws. KY prohibts deer hunting (taking your shot) from a vehicle and limits your magazine capacity (I usually carry 2-20 round mags in my Colt.) I had my .270 with me one day and only had 4 shells and saw 2 coyotes (and I am a firm believer that anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice).
