propane refueling

I need to find information regarding how propane fueled tractors were fueled up on a farm.
If there is someone who used such a tractor could you tell me what is required,to fuel from an on farm storage tank. I suppose a pump of some kind was required,as I have filled 20 lb. portable tanks, and they only fill quickly until pressure is equalized. I know it will also feed in by gravity, but very slowly.
any information would be greatly appreciated
