Sure I take downpayments. And I hold them to the letter of the law. The downpayment is non-refundable, and good only for a limited time, I usually specify 10 days. It's stopped some people cold who thought they could loan me 20 bucks and tie me and my item up indefinately for free. It's also clinched some folks in who weren't sure they wanted to commit.
