Chevrolet Tractor tow vehicle

I have a 96' Chev Silverado ext. Cab with a 6.5 turbo diesel. I have encountered a stumble once in a while in acceleration and then I have about a 40% loss of power and the "Service engine" light comes on? What I discovered is, if I purge the fuel bleed off valve of about a pint of fuel, turn engine off, shut valve and then crank back up the problem goes away. This sometimes occurs at various intervals. sometimes won't do it for 600 miles or longer? Anyone got any feedback? Is it moisture in the fuel that the computer is sensing? Strange situation...once I bleed off a little fuel it runs fine. Any of you Chevrolet guys had simular experiences?
