There is an electric fuel lift pump in the LH framerail. These fail, or become intermittant, and you have all kinds of weird problems. It is fed power through an oil pressure switch at the upper rear of the engine. These fail also. The electronic fuel injection pump has had it's share of problems, and can cause lots of strange problems. You should pull the trouble codes and see what the computer is actually seeing when it turns on the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. The fuel lift pump is $140.00 or so, and if it has quite a few miles on it that mught be a good place to start, as problems with these are common.
